World War 2

The global conflict of World War 2 began in 1939 and finally ended in 1945.

The Second World war is regarded as the biggest widespread war in history and also known as the deadliest conflict in human history with substantial loss of human life from most countries of the world.

The war started in September 1939 with the German invasion of Poland although Japan had been in war with China since 1937.

With the invasion of Poland in 1939 Great Britain and her allies could offer little support to Poland.

Great Britain and France declared war on Germany followed by the Australians, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa.

With the fall of Poland in a short two weeks Great Britain and France began a naval blockage of Germany aiming to cut of supply lines to the Germans.

Germany responded with U-Boat Warfare on all merchant and War Ships that led to the Battle of the Atlantic which lasted the whole length of The Second World War with substantial Shipping losses.

By spring of 1940 Germany invaded Norway and Denmark and also launched attacks on France and Neutral Belgium and Netherlands.

Many lives were lost in the Second World War it has been estimated that between 50-70 million people died including many civilians as well as Servicemen.
